Frequently Asked Questions

What height and width should a counter be? +
Around 1m high and 1m wide for a single-staff service point. That height lets your people stand and write, and lets a visitor lean in without stooping. Go to 1.2m or 1.8m wide when two staff work side by side, or a 2m to 3m reception desk when the counter is the front of the stand. Deeper than roughly 500mm and you start giving away aisle space a 3m stand cannot spare.
Is there storage inside? +
Yes, and it is the main reason to buy one. The fabric skin unzips over an internal shelf or an open cavity, so bags, spare brochures, a kettle and the empty carton all get off the floor. Load it low and keep weight off the top, because a fabric-over-frame counter is light by design. If you need lockable storage, choose one of the podium case models rather than a skinned frame.
Do I need a backlit counter? +
Only if the counter is doing the selling. A unit like the Backlit Premium Fabric Counter Display lights the graphic from inside, which is worth paying for in a dim hall or on a stand with no other lighting. It costs you a power order from the organiser, a lead run across the floor, and the AS/NZS 3760 test-and-tag that every lead and fitting needs. A plain counter beside a lit wall usually looks fine.
Which style survives repeat use? +
The pop-up and velcro-wrapped counters travel best because there is little to scratch, but the top is where damage shows. A hard top takes cup rings and pen marks, so wipe it down at the end of each day rather than at the end of the show. The Convertible Fabric Podium Case with Header Display is the toughest option, since the shipping case itself becomes the counter and there is no separate frame to bend.
Can I put a monitor or an iPad on it? +
Use a model designed for it rather than balancing a screen on top. The Integrated Monitor Fabric Display Table and the shelved counters carry the mount within the structure, so load goes into the frame instead of the tabletop. A screen clamped to the edge of a fabric counter makes the whole unit top-heavy, and one knock in a busy aisle takes the screen and the counter down together.
How long does one take to assemble? +
Ten minutes, one person, for a standard fabric counter. The frame clicks together tool-free, the top drops on, the printed cover zips over. Backlit versions add the LED wiring and run closer to twenty-five minutes. Build the counter after the back wall is up rather than before, because it is the piece everyone stacks cartons on while the wall goes in, and the cover marks easily.

Scale and purpose. The counters here are standalone furniture with their own frame and printed skin, sized to be worked behind.
